Da's waar, maar ik kan me als beginnend DJ voorstellen dat je iets fijner (met meer zelfvertrouwen) een tent in loopt als je perfect weet hoe je met de gear om moet gaan.

Als je het kunt betalen zou ik altijd voor de Pioneers gaan. Al is het maar omdat deze overal te vinden zijn, alle DJ's er mee overweg kunnen, en ze in zo'n beetje alle clubs staan. Stel dat je een keer in een club of cafe wilt gaan draaien, dan kun je in ieder geval met de CD spelers overweg.
En die effecten van de concurrenten zijn grappig, maar je gebruikt er misschien 2 per uur en dat is al veel van het goede (slechte?)....

Koop gewoon een stand voor een digitale Piano of synth, knal er een mooie plank op en je hebt een opvouwbaar superstevig meubel, dat nog in hoogte verstelbaar is ook zodat je de voor jou perfecte hoogte kunt instellen. Ik gebruik een Quicklok stand, werkt top.

Wat ook mooi is zijn die roestvrijstalen opklapbare horeca barretjes...

Ik gebruik hiervoor altijd MP3Gain. Die "normaliseert" iets anders, en daardoor behoudt je de originele geluidskwaliteit. Hij kan dit in Album mode (behoudt verhouding met andere nummers) of in track mode (alle tracks bijv. 90 Db)

Uitleg:

Most programs that "normalize" sound files do so by adjusting all the samples so that the loudest single sample is at some specified value. This is not a good way to make all the files actually have the same loudness. First of all, the human ear does not hear the loudness of single samples. It averages out sounds over time. Secondly, today's popular music CDs are heavily compressed. The sound engineers making the CD raise the average level so that it sounds much louder, while compressing the loudest parts so that they don't distort.

The bad news: MP3Gain can only adjust the volume of your mp3 files in steps of 1.5 dB.

The good news: 1.5 dB is a small enough step for most practical purposes. Most humans can just barely hear a volume change of 1 dB.

The other good news is that this volume adjustment is completely lossless. In other words, if you adjust an mp3 by -6 dB and then change your mind, you can adjust it again by +6 dB and it will be exactly the same as it was before you made the first adjustment.

Here's the technical reason why it's lossless, and also why the smallest change possible is 1.5 dB:

The mp3 format stores the sound information in small chunks called "frames". Each frame represents a fraction of a second of sound. In each frame there is a "global gain" field. This field is an 8-bit integer (so its value can be a whole number from 0 to 255).

When an mp3 player decodes the sound in the frame, it uses the global gain field to multiply the decoded sound samples by 2(gain / 4).

So if you add 1 to this gain field in all the frames in the mp3, you effectively multiply the amplitude of the whole file by 2(1/4) = 119% = +1.5 dB.

Likewise, if you subtract 1 from the global gain, you multiply the amplitude by 2(-1/4) = 84% = -1.5 dB.

Misschien heb je hier wat aan !

Ableton Live 3 (of inmiddels al 4?) is hier echt steengoed in voor Live gebruik.

Heb de bron erbij gezet. En tja, een mening van iemand, dat blijft het altijd.
Ik dacht ik zet het even neer, voordat iedereen (lees: een goede vriend van me) blind 2 van die dingen besteld voor mucho euro's ;)

Die site lijkt mij wel redelijk betrouwbaar, en geeft wat mij betreft in ieder geval aan dat je beter eerst even zelf kunt testen voor je ze aanschaft.

Ik draai nu al een tijd met een laptop erbij. Een geluidskaart van Audiotrak (MAJA) met 8 stereo uitgangen (waarvan ik er 3 gebruik: 2 voor Traktor en 1 voor bijv. Ableton Live). Het is een simpele DELL laptop met centrino chipset, 512 MB geheugen en 30 MB schijf. Werkt prima, alleen als het erg warm is vind hij een kleine pauze wel fijn (of tip: koop een laptop koeler van Antec, werkt top!)

Op deze manier heb ik altijd enorm veel, goed gearchiveerde nummers bij me. Ideaal voor als je niet helemaal weet in welke stijl je moet gaan draaien, zoals in grand cafe's ofzo waar iedereen opeens uit z'n bol gaat op 70's terwijl jij 30 kilo club bij je hebt.

Zo heb ik al meerdere male feestjes gered omdat men house maar helemaal niks vond, maar op R&B, Latin, etc (zegmaar Urban, het nieuwe modewoord van mijn Mokum) helemaal los ging!

Ik vind een laptop dus een zeer waardevolle aanvulling op mijn DJ apparatuur (en je kunt ook nog eens een cdtje branden voor de vrouwelijke fans :D )

Ik las net dit. Ik wacht dus nog maar even af, en draai (nog even??) fijn door met m'n Pioneers !

Update March 2004: By now, the Technics SLDZ1200 CD decks are on the market. But, I have to sadly announce that according to the general concensus, they simply SUCK. I have got feedback from many DJs I respect and they all said that the Technics still have a long way to go against the Pioneer CDJ-1000s (the now standard DJ digital CD tabletop players). Basically, they should stick to convetional analog turntables. This is all sad news but let's all hope that they will do something about it and improve them as they surely look nice and seem designed in a very clever manner.
